Product Description

Trenton, New Jersey, bounty hunter Stephanie Plum has inherited a “lucky” bottle from her Uncle Pip. Problem is, Uncle Pip didn’t specify if the bottle brought good luck or bad luck. . . .

BAD LUCK:

Vinnie, of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds, has run up a gambling debt of $786,000 with mobster Bobby Sunflower and is being held until the cash can be produced. Nobody else will pay to get Vinnie back, leaving it up to Stephanie, office manager Connie, and file clerk Lula to raise the money if they want to save their jobs.

GOOD LUCK:

Being in the business of tracking down people, Stephanie, Lula, and Connie have an advantage in finding Vinnie. If they can rescue him, it will buy them some time to raise the cash.

BAD LUCK:

Finding a safe place to hide Vinnie turns out to be harder than raising $786,000. Vinnie’s messing up Mooner’s vibe, running up pay-per-view porn charges in Ranger’s apartment, and making Stephanie question genetics.

GOOD LUCK:

Between a bonds office yard sale that has the entire Burg turning out, Mooner’s Hobbit-Con charity event, and Uncle Pip’s lucky bottle, they just might raise enough money to save the business, and Vinnie, from ruin.

BAD LUCK:

Saving Vincent Plum Bail Bonds means Stephanie can keep being a bounty hunter. In Trenton, this involves hunting down a man wanted for polygamy, a turnpike toilet paper bandit, and a drug dealer with a pet alligator named Mr. Jingles.

GOOD LUCK:

The job of bounty hunter comes with perks in the guise of Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli, and the dark and dangerous security expert, Ranger. With any luck at all, Uncle Pip’s lucky bottle will have Stephanie getting lucky---the only question is . . . with whom?

Sizzling Sixteen . . . so hot, the pages might spontaneously combust!

In Sizzling Sixteen, Evanovich gives us another fun and slightly naughty Stephanie Plum adventure. The adventure is pure Plum - with all the main characters helping her to bungle through her job tracking down criminals who jumped bond as well as a new adventure. I was disappointed that two of the storylines I like best in this series are barely addressed: 1) Her romantic dilemma is addressed but not focussed on as she seems to be taking a vacation from both of her men in this book 2) Her wacky family and grandmother - only one small scene with them. The main story line is the trouble her boss gets into and how the office girls need to raise a lot of money to "bail" him out. Unrealistic, stupid and somehow still enjoyable.

I'm going to be honest. I wasn't even planning on reading this one. And I didn't buy it, but I feel the need to review it all the same since I've been through 16 of these now.

I have been thinking this for the last 5 or 6 books or so. Like Fonzie in California....this series has jumped the shark.

I didn't laugh out loud once. And it was because I felt like I read the book already, several times. I can't even tell you what each book is about, they are so alike. There was one good line that made me smirk So save yourself the $........and read: Steph had a big guy to bring in and Rangeman guy stun gunned him but didn't work. Steph said "Maybe you could hook a chain to the cuffs on his ankles and drag him behind your car". He said "We tried that once, and Ranger didn't like it. You do something twice that Ranger doesn't like, and you're out of a job and damaged".

I used to LOVE these books. I read the first 5 in 2 weeks and then agonized waiting for the next release. When they came out, I'd go to the store that AM before work because I couldn't wait. Then I'd have to MAKE myself not read it in a day just so I could stretch the time with the book out, knowing it would be a year before I could read the next. There was a lot of times, I read them over the stove as I cooked supper! They were the only books I'd buy in hardback. That no longer happens. I just read 15 in July, a year past it's release. Actually, 15 was decent and I enjoyed it. I haven't done that since 10 or so.

I read a review from someone else that said it's like every book is the same with a few changes. I totally agree. It's like that song on the radio that you just LOVE and then radio plays it so often you suddenly can't stand it. I understand the need to do a little set up for those just jumping in, but I swear it's the same dialogue. You know how the book will be written. Intro, little bit of Joe, umpteen pages of Steph and Lula just riding around, dinner at the folks, oops lost a car. Ranger shows up briefly, bumbling skip attempts. The end. Oh and BTW Lula's on a diet.

I read other person commenting on the length of the book. They are right on. It's 309 pages...less the 17 blank pages before chapters (they always start on right side) = 292 pages. Then you have the extra wide margins and big text. That's a pretty small hardback. Not a lot of substance there.

The characters just never seem to DEVELOP....at ALL. The only thing that changes is the skips and I'm so tired of her writing Steph telling people, "you need to reschedule your court date". And Rex living in the soup can. How long is this hamster going to live???? lol Can't she even write in another pet?

I would LOVE to see Janet actually WRITE something new. Mix in some NEW characters, give Lula a man, or bring a new guy in the mix for Steph. Have another bond office open and rival them. ANYTHING just so long as it's different. I've been reading the people doing the same thing 16 times now. It's like she just changes the order and collects a check.

There is only one thing in these books that never gets old and I never seem to get enough of....Ranger and Steph. She writes Ranger so well. And yet he's only in little pieces of her books. I would love to see her rewrite the series with more of them together with her working for him or even a new series all together with Ranger as the main character. I think it could be really good to see what goes on in HIS mind while he's watching Steph bumble her way around the world.

These books just don't seem to have the humor anymore. If you want to read a series that's got a little heavier crime with funny moments, read the Jack Daniels series by J.A. Konrath.

Janet, PLEASE do something with this series!

This was one of the most disappointing books in this series to date. I couldn't wait for a new Stephanie Plum adventure and is was simply a compilation of all of the other books. I could have picked up an of the previous 15 books and found material so much the same that I probably wouldn't have realized I was reading a different book. I hope she kicks it up a notch in the future. I certainly won't rush to buy the next one until it comes out in paperback.

I have grown to love the characters in the Plum world. I guess this is why I look forward to seeing books in this series every year around my birthday. Lately, though, I haven't been as apt to run out and buy them the day they come out. The past few I've actually waited until it was at the library or on a really good sale at my local bookstore.

That being said, I did enjoy Sizzling Sixteen. It's a good no brainer where I can just read the (mis)adventures of some colorful characters. Not the best place to start for Evanovich newbs but I enjoyed catching up with my dear friends, even if their adventures weren't quite as spectacular or well thought out as previous ones.
